ANTONIO GALLONI - VINOUS

Piedmont: Top Values and Everyday Gems

GIUSEPPE CORTESE Barbera d’Alba Morassina 2014 – 91 points

“Cortese's 2014 Barbera d'Alba Morassina is nicely layered, persistent and perfumed, with captivating aromatics, silky fruit and lovely overall balance. The 2014 was bottled just a few weeks before this tasting, so I will not be surprised if it is even better in another few months. Feminine and gracious, the Morassina is a Barbera built more on finesse than power.”

GIUSEPPE CORTESE Dolcetto d’Alba 2015 – 89 points

“The 2015 Dolcetto d'Alba is an attractive, perfumed wine to drink now and over the next few years. Sweet floral notes, stone fruits, almonds and violets give the 2015 much of its lifted, perfumed personality. This is an especially gracious, feminine style. Ripe, silky tannins round out the finish.”

GIUSEPPE CORTESE Barbera d’Alba 2015 – 88 points

“The 2015 Barbera d'Alba is another refreshing, inviting, entry-level offering from Cortese. Sweet red berry notes burst forward from this soft, succulent, tank-aged Barbera. I would prefer to drink the 2015 sooner rather than later, while the wine retains its youthful juiciness.”

GIUSEPPE CORTESE Langhe Nebbiolo 2014 – 88 points

“Bright red cherry, wild strawberry, mint and flowers, along with the influence of the cool growing season, give the 2014 Langhe Nebbiolo much of its gracious, lifted personality. I would prefer to drink the 2014 sooner rather than later given its mid-weight structure.”
